Schedule
Jodaiko
maintains a regular practice schedule, generally consisting of two four-hour
practices per week during the UCI Academic School Year, and two three-hour
practices per week during the Summer Term.
Individuals
interested in applying for Jodaiko Membership are required to attend the
first hour of at least one of these practices, in addition to a practice
session geared towards teaching new members the basics of Jodaiko's style
of taiko. These practices typically take place on Wednesdays during the
first five weeks of the UCI Fall Quarter, and do not last longer than
three hours.
Exact
dates and times are subject to change, as are practice locations. For
precise information regarding practices for a given week, please contact
our Board of Directors at performances[@]jodaiko.com.
Concerts
In addition to numerous performances in the local Orange
County and UC Irvine communities, Jodaiko holds various yearly concerts
on UCI's Main Campus. Every year, Tomo No Kai, UCI's Japanese/Japanese
American club presents Cultural Night. Cultural Night is an evening filled
with dance, theater, and of course, Taiko. Cultural Night typically is
held on campus during the end of winter.
The Intercollegiate Taiko Invitational is a major event
for the collegiate taiko community. It is hosted yearly by either UCI's
Jodaiko, UCLA's Kyodo Taiko, or Stanford Taiko. The participants also
include: UCR's Senryu Taiko, UCSD Asayake Taiko, USC Kazan Taiko and even
St. Louis Osuwa Taiko.
Spring Concert and Island Rhythms are held when UCI
is not hosting the Intercollegiate Taiko Invitational. Spring Concert
is Jodaiko's opportunity to showcase its repertoire for the whole community
to enjoy. Island Rhythms is a collaboration between UCI's Hawaii club
and Jodaiko.
